How to Tell the Difference Between Real and Fake Pearls?

0

If your boyfriend’s just given you a set of gorgeous pearl earrings, you’re probably over the moon… and possibly wondering whether or not they’re real. Believe it or not, it’s not very difficult to tell a faux from an actual pearl. Read on for more about separating the high quality pearls from the fakes. What is a Fake Pearl? Faux pearls are any that are made unnaturally. Plastic, resin, and glass are all materials that are used to make pearls. Cultured pearls aren’t quite natural pearls but they’re not necessarily considered fake, either.… >> Read more

Are Plunging Necklines Still HOT & How To Do This Trend?

Errr, are we all gorgeous beautiful people? YAS! Hello. No need for rhetorical questions right now. I mean… if you’re gonna ask an obvious question expect an invasion of doh’s coming your way. Just saying. Please observe how I’m literally in a fight with myself, which in itself is nothing new, just another day of delusional behavior. Ah well… At least I’m not delusional when I’m stating the obvious right now: PLUNGING NECKLINES & LOW CUTS will always be HOT and TRENDY!… >> Read more

There’s A New COOL Way To Carry Your Bag

Grabbing is the new carrying. Holding your expensive luxurious purse as if it’s some cheap lunch-bag is the new way to carry your bag. To look chic you know. And also fake the fact that you couldn’t care less about the brand and the outrageous price tag it holds. There seems to be an effortless refinement in this style-lifestyle-nonchalance. I will say though one thing… not a lot of people have it (thank God!) so faking it is the next best thing.… >> Read more

2015 SAG Awards Red Carpet: Best & Worst Dressed

Either I forgot to turn off my bitch mode, OR I’m clueless in regards to red carpet fashion, but I thought this year’s SAG awards had one of the worst dresses ever. No, not necessarily worse, just meh, and incredibly ill-fitted. Too much ruffles, too much asymmetric structure, too stiff fabrics, too ill-fitted, so no surprise those who actually looked decent landed on the best dressed list. I mean it wasn’t that hard in the first place. Yes, Kelly Osbourne was going on about how amazing this red carpet was, and how it nailed the glamour more than the globes and I was wondering then, am I watching the same red carpet show?… >> Read more

2015 Oscars: MEN On The Red Carpet

When last week I had the pleasure of chatting with the amazing L.A. based celebrity groomer and makeup artist – Lauren Kaye Cohen – about red carpet beauty looks, grooming and styling for MEN – I had an epiphany: why don’t we talk about men on the red carpet as much as we talk about women? Remember that time when Cate Blanchet, when asked to spin and twirl, and flip and flop, asked Ryan Seacrest ‘I’m just curious, do you do this to the men as well?’ The level of red carpets talk has gone ballistic, and we’re all to blame, but that’s a different talk.… >> Read more

Matching Sets: The 70s Trend That Doesn’t Go Away

0

Or better yet… the 70s trend that’s on a roll and taking front stage in SS2015 more than ever. In case you don’t remember, no worries, I got your back. The matchy-matchy look had a quick comeback a while ago, but it feels like today it’s making up big time for not sticking the first time. Plus it’s more versatile now. And more ubiquitous. The moment you see Kim Kardashian in some not-so-mainsream trend, the look in question is bound to have a breakout all.… >> Read more

How To Wear SHIRT DRESSES?

Somewhere between our hectic days and relaxing evenings, between fashion crushes and can’t be bothered moods, there are so many things left undone and unsaid it’s a pity. And if you, like me, are a bit of a procrastinator with a case of ADD then you’re practically fucked. An idea you might have today, a thought that lingers too long in your mind, if not shared, becomes wasted. Until it’s too late. But sometimes… when it comes back to you repeatedly you know you gotta say something about it.… >> Read more

The 4 Jewellery Pieces You Need For 2015 Summer

Probably the happiest I’d ever be, was in this parallel universe where opulence and covering yourself in jewellery was mandatory. Not that I’m so far away for this reality IRL, but if I were to be honest here… (cringe) I’m only doing entry level, jewellery wise. Ah well… it’s good to set boundaries every now and  then. However you look at jewellery and however you chose to wear it – statement, dainty, minimal, or all over your body – one thing will always stand the test of time: jewellery and accessories are the little Devils in style, and they make all the difference. … >> Read more

Peasant Tops: Secret To Looking Like A Boho-Chic Queen!

0

Some of the most beautiful things in life we take for granted, and in all honestly I feel like, in my case, the peasant tops are one of them. For a few years now these boho chic blouses, usually in white with tiny sweet embroideries on them, are making front stage on catwalks, streets, festivals, and even office wear. Of course it’s not the first time in history they’re making trendy appearances. In fact, it was in the 70s that these peasant tops had a trendy trait bigger than my ego.… >> Read more

Can We Wear One-Piece Swimsuits As Bodysuits?

Perhaps the more appropriate question would be HOW to wear one-piece swimsuits as bodysuits on the streets during the day, or at nighttime as evening tops? Because you see… we’re queens we CAN bloody do anything we want. No, this is not a joke-post, I am seriously asking this question and with it, seriously considering doing this look. I would’t be the first one actually. Well… perhaps among the few mortals, cause them VIPs and celebs have resorted to this look quite a few times.… >> Read more

Are HIGH WAISTED JEANS The Best Style Ever?

0
0

high-waist-jeansAfter turning my 2 pairs of high waisted denims into a uniform for the past month, I am totally sold on this look, hence my biased fashion take on the high waisted trend: Keep ’em coming! Of course this style is everything you want and need in a look, sans the groundbreaking trait. They’ve been HOT in the 80’s, 90’s and, after a short break, what with the low waisted jeans and all, they’re back in fashion for sometime. high-waisted-jeans-look (2)high-waisted-jeans-trend-90s (2)high-waisted-jeans-trend-90sFrom those mom-jeans styles, to cool boyfriend cuts, to skinny jeans, the denims all have one major thing in common: a higher waist than we’d ever thought we’d wear.

So how does this makes us feel & look? high-waisted-jeans-look (6)Asofuckinglutely gorgeous! High wasited jeans add curves where they’re not, keep everything into place, super tight and fitted, accentuate curves in the hottest way possible, and give a bit of retro-urban-chic vibe to a look. They look best with tops tucked in, OR they’re the perfect gimmick for pulling off crop tops but never having to worry on skipping dinner to avoid a massive burger belly. Why? Cause the waist is so high that basically you just reveal a mid-riff and the stomach is kept under-wraps by the jeans. high-waisted-jeans-lookhigh-waisted-jeans-trendTried it and it works. Stuffed myself like a pig on Sunday while wearing high waisted jeans & cropped tee, and nobody died.

The trend of the high waisted jeans may not be new at all, and its comeback’s been hot for a while, but the question is: Do you still like them? Do you prefer them over the classic cuts?

Are they easier to style and more flattering?

Yes. Yes. Yes. I say. Elongating legs, looking more professional, hence even work appropriate when worn with blouses and tucked in shirts, looking trendy when the weekend hits the calendar, from summer to winter, they might just be the staple we’ve all been wearing while taking it for granted.

Let’s get inspo: ;) high-waisted-jeanshigh-waisted-jeans-denim-trendhigh-waisted-jeans-look (3)high-waisted-jeans-look (4)high-waisted-jeans-look (5)high-waisted-jeans-look (7)high-waisted-jeans-lookhigh-waisted-jeans-street-style (3)high-waisted-jeans-street-style (4)high-waisted-jeans-street-style (5)high-waisted-jeans-street-style (6)high-waisted-jeans-street-stylehigh-waisted-jeans-style (3)high-waisted-jeans-style (2)high-waisted-jeans-style (4)high-waisted-jeans-stylehigh-waisted-jeans-trend (2)high-waisted-jeans-trend (3)high-waisted-jeans-trend (4)high-waisted-jeans-trend (5)high-waisted-jeans-trend (6)high-waisted-jeans-trend-denimOr maybe I’m just obsessed with them, as I can’t fucking get over the simple effortless look of my high waisted jeans and cami tops with spaghetti straps. But you know what they say, why stop when it looks and feels so good?

Milk it while i’s hot. Why fix it if it ain’t broken.

Yeah.

You get the idea. ;)

Round And Round And Round We Go, Baby!

round-sunglasses-street-style (5)This is not a dance (although we could make it), nor a talk on the complicated circles of life in general, with its mundane rat races. No. This is a very laid back and fun chat about ROUND SUNGLASSES! Why? Well… first of all cause I’m on holiday and beach attire is mainly the only thing on my mind, and second because I just figured we’d better talk shades, since they’re the #1 all-year-round-accessory, and get to the bottom of why round sunglasses are so coveted right now.

They still are right? round-sunglasses-look (5)I feel like the weirder, funkier, edgier an item is today, the most likely it’ll stick and drive fashionistats insane with getting the look and styling it up to their own moods and outfits. ALL sunglasses are in, from wayfarers, to cat eyes, to printed, mirrored, aviators, bejeweled, massive, funny shaped, so… a return to the sunnies made famous by John Lennon is not such a big surprise.

Oh… I’m sorry, did you think round shades were courtesy of our present times?

Yeah.

After Lennon, it were the 90s who revived this round glasses trend, when everyone who was alive on this planet knew that rounds were the coolest thing to have. They went so well with those band tees, bed-hair, summer boots, and grungy sad moods. 90style-round-glassestumblr_lw3dl2WQJ41qax0bvo1_500Forward a few years, give the rounds a break in the meantime and what do you say, what do you know? They’re back, looking more fresh and incredibly posh than ever. Yes… quite posh and glamed up if you will, for a pair of shades that stood for rocknroll times, hippie culture and a general coolness of rebellious kids. I guess that’s what happens when Chanel and other massive designers start borrowing from subcultures. Everything that was once done mainly by those with fashion je-m’en-fiche’ísm and a set of sartorial balls, will eventually be done by the exact opposite people for trend reasons & looking up to date with the latest fads in town. round-sunniesNot that there’s anything wrong with that. Au contraire… the more I think about it, the more I realize it’s a fucking fashion paradise we’re living in. How so?

Well… if you’re say, a quirky funky fashion lova do the massive round shades, the vintage styles, the weird looking ones with no regards as to how they fit your face shape or clothes. Or do the exact opposite: go for tiny tiny round shades. Whatever the masses aren’t doing that’ll be your thing. round-sunglasses-look (6)round-sunglasses-street-style (10)If you’re a sophisticated girl with cool & effortlessly chic moods you’ll probably love to wear round sunglasses to music festivals, when you pair them with hippie inspired outfits (maxi dresses, short floral skirts & bustier tops, cutoffs, boots, gladiator shoes, flowers in your hair), or on a daily basis with your high waisted jeans, funky tops, long nails and bold lips. round-sunglasses-street-style (7)round-sunglasses-trendIf you’re more of a classic style lova, but like a bit of  razzmatazz to your looks, pick big sleek round sunglasses styles, that have that retro-diva-thing written all over them. round-sunglasses-look (4)round-sunglasses-look (7)If you’re none of the above… or you’re all of them: do the damn rounds anyway. Or especially. They’re different than your regular common styles (although they’re staring to be pretty regular themselves), and they give a slight coolness & edge to ANY outfit as different in style as it may be from them. round-sunglasses-street-style (6)Assuming y’all love these rounds, there’s only one problem left: not everyone can wear them. Cause you know, not all of us have perfect face shapes that allow us to just slap a pair of weird sunnies on them and get away with it.

Buuut, I have perhaps found le little secret: bigger round sunglasses fit any face shape much better than smaller shapes. It’s all about trying on as many styles & even colors as possible until you stumble on the right one for you. If the cats can do them so can we. ;) round-sunglasses-trend-style (2)

Let’s have a look at more styles: round-sunglasses-trend-style (5)round-glassesround-shadesround-sunglasses-look (2)round-sunglasses-look (3)round-sunglasses-lookround-sunglasses-street-style (2)round-sunglasses-street-style (3)round-sunglasses-street-style (4)round-sunglasses-street-style (8)round-sunglasses-street-style (9)round-sunglasses-street-styleround-sunglasses-trend (2)round-sunglasses-trend (3)round-sunglasses-trend-style (4)round-sunglasses-trend-style (6)round-sunglasses-trend-style (7)round-sunglasses-trend-stylesunglasses-trend-round-framAnd now let’s do the round and round and round we go sunglasses dance. How To Get THAT ’70’s Look This Fall?

70s-fashion-2014-inspiration (3)What if… for one month, we could live in a movie scene of our own choice?

Or even an era. A favorite moment snapshot in time. Dress, act, eat, drink, and mingle with the characters & real people of those scenes and times. Where would you go to? 70s-fashion-2014-inspirationIs that Bianca Jagger lusciously hanging by Andy Warhol‘s neck, in her V-plunging high slit sequined dress and fur coat? Cigarette in one hand, smoke blowing out over half dozed black eyelashes, flirtatiously laughing at his non-existent jokes cause why the hell not.

It’s mid fall circa 1970’s just outside Studio 54, where anybody who’s somebody is there. The Stones, Woody, Diana Ross, Jerry Hall, Cher, Sony.

Or Diane von Furstenberg, the woman and artist every other woman and man wants be around. In her iconic knee-length wrap dress, that, at this early hours of the morning is showing off her incredible legs, crossed in a cool and seductive laziness on a cozy crowded sofa in Studio 54, while sipping her poison of choice and having a fag, cause it’s the fucking 70’s you know. 70s-fashion-2014-inspiration (5)70s-fashion-2014-inspiration-studio-54 (3)70s-fashion-2014-inspiration-studio-54 (4)70s-fashion-2014-inspirationBig hair, sultry dresses, exposed decolletages all the way to the belly button. No bras. Sequins, sheer, thick heels, fur coats, hats, red lips, tons of rings, big nails… the era of the borderline kitsch femme fatale, a look which today does not exist in the same sense.

The above image might as well describe a hooker making her morning rounds before she hits her motel room in 2014.  There is some decadence in all this 70’s fashion, and, as kitsch and at-times-too-glamorous as it may appear, it was a hell of a time. 70s-fashion-2014-inspiration-studio-5470s-trend-in-2014-autumn (3)Or why not wander the streets of New York city having endless, witty, apparently-meaningless, funny, neurotic, intriguing conversations with a Woody Allen 70’s character?

You could look like Meryl Streep or Diane Keaton in their nude trench coats, cinged at the waist, with high brown tube boots in chunky heels and some pleated 70’s dress underneath, going on and on about what books you’ve read, that dish you always love to eat, that man you so want, those relationship spiderwebs.

It’s cold, and your hands are trying to stay in your pockets but you need to talk and make a point, you know, as you walk past coffee shops, and cross traffic jammed streets in a bit of a run, just to make that chunky heel sound. 70s-fashion-2014-inspiration-studio-54 (7)Or why not live in Paris or London like Jane Birkin, making decadent love and music with Serge Gainsbourg? With her iconic effortless look, straight bed hair, bangs, rugged jeans, old tees, braless, and a coat slung around her shoulders. 70s-fashion-2014-inspiration (4)’70’s – that’s the time I’d go to. Paris for writing. Woody Allen film for LIFE, and Studio 54 for late night parties and crushes.

But since I can’t, I’m gonna have to make do with what I’ve got. Reenact it & make it all happen through fashion.

And it just so happens that this autumn the 70’s are back!

I would have never pictured myself a few years ago loving this decade, but today I think it’s one of the best. For its contrasts. For its neurotic freedom, decay, rise,  incredibly glamorous kitsch, rebelliousness and all that’s in between and beyond.

As each decade comes with its iconic look, for me the 70s come with a combination of the above, according to the mood swing you have, cause you know… if you’re gonna do the 70s do that shit all the way. 70s-trend-in-2014-autumn (2)2014-autumn-trend-the-70s-street-style (9)Be fabulously inconsistent, all over the place, fashion maniac and don a grandma style dress with high boots during the day and a drop dead gorgeous fuck-me-now-dress with a plunging neckline all the way to your lace knickers, during the evening.  And of course, since it’s cold and windy take shelter under a faux fur coat that looks more expensive than your 3 months paycheck, and top it all with golden rings on each finger. While sipping wine or Jack. The drink.

The 70s glam look for 2014 autumn:

  • high heels (ankle boots, sandals)
  • chiffon or silk over the knee or long dress
  • high slit
  • plunging neckline
  • thin necklace
  • tons of rings
  • middle part long messy hairstyle
  • faux fur coat
  • leather jacket & massive fur collar

70s-trend-in-2014-autumn (10)2014-autumn-trend-the-70s-street-style (3)70s-trend-in-2014-autumn (12)2014-autumn-trend-the-70s-street-style (6)And then… during the day switch back to being either Jill or Mary or Annie, (i.e. Woody Allen characters) and capture all that half sexy –  (in that very intellectual charismatic but more realistic and appealing way) – half normcore style:

– peasant midi skirts, buttoned up shirts, silky paisley printed dresses cinged at the waist, slightly over the knees, the type that are more summer appropriate but you just stretch them into autumn cause you have a wanna-feel-sexy-artist-kinda-day, tube brown boots, chunky heels, oversized brown coats, brown trenches, brown bags, brown sunglasses. Cause you know, everything in the 70’s was so unsaturated and sort of sepia filtered.

The 70s daytime look for 2014 autumn:

  • high boots (tube style, over -the-knee etc.)
  • midi skirts (plaid, chiffon, prints, A-cut, high waist, straight, pleats, any style that has a bit of movement)
  • tucked in shirt, up to the waist line sweater, sheer blouse, or even deep V-cuts
  • classic trench coat cinged at the waist, or thick coat slightly oversized.
  • belts
  • wrap skirts or dresses

70s-trend-in-2014-autumn (5)70s-trend-in-2014-autumn (4)70s-trend-in-2014-autumn (6)70s-trend-in-2014-autumn (8)70s-trend-in-2014-autumn (9)If the femme fatale or mom-look does not appeal to you, well… you always have Jane Birkin with her bohemian minimalist and chic style. Keep the boots or chunky heels, let your hair grow, but cut long bangs, wear your man’s shirts and t-shirts, skinny jeans, and simple classic coats. Always tuck your hair in your jacket and hum your fave tune.

How to make it all look 2014-sophisticated?

Attention to accessories: expensive looking jewelry, bags and shoes. Avoid really big hair that’d go on fire if you lit up a cigarette, and instead opt for Birkin’s locks. And always, always got for quality textures, and make sure if you’re wearing vintage pieces, that at least one item from your outfit is new and trendy. To get that eclectic balanced present day retro vibe.

It bares so many looks, translating into effortlessly sexy styles, that celebrate the clothes. Not the body so much. We’re all covered up. Midi lengths, high boots, turtle necks. Well… unless you’re channeling Studio 54 divas… then you’re anything but understated and covered up. And that’s great too.

Now you tell me: what decade or film you’d go to?

Oh… and by the way, what do you think about the 70s?

4 Easy To Do HALLOWEEN Costumes

0
0

halloween-celebsWell if it isn’t the time of the freak show again. And I’m loving every minute of it. Actually I’ve rarely donned a Halloween costume per se, but more like allowed myself to go over the top with some creepy or way too sexy items that I’d never wear otherwise: heavy costume style makeup, black lips, vampire fangs, long creepy nails (well in my case, it don’t have to be Halloween for that), cat ears, face masks, wigs et all.

In other words easy peasy gimmicks you can do for Halloween if you’re 3 things: lazy (but still don’t wanna miss on the celebration), financially responsible (so you don’t want to over-spend) and 3) you still wanna look hot in that creepy cute sort of way. 53bace9a1aeda8b581d54aa483322229Besides, if you’re heading to a fancy party or just going out for dinner and drinks with your family and friends I’m also one to think that a little face mask, veil, interesting hat, makeup, one over-the-top item you’re wearing or painting on yourself is way better, at least in terms of comfort, than an overall costume suit. But again I’m just speaking from my experience and taste, as I know the moment I’d show up on Halloween in some Marilyn Monroe attire or a massive vegetable or animal suit, that’s it for me. The night would already be compromised, as I’d worry too much on how I’d move or get around looking like a massive eggplant or God knows what animal. Not to mention drinking, eating and dancing, now those would be real challenges.

So instead, I’m always one to love these on others and applaud the courage on their Halloween costume choices while in my head I’m all: ”Thank God I’doing just this pink wig tonight.”

With this in mind, and the comfort we need to feel when we’re out celebrating I’ve put together 4 easy ideas we can all do for this year’s Halloween in less than one hour maybe and on a budget. halloween-costume-ideas-masks (2)1. CAT EARS HEADBANDS. Nothing will ever beat these for Halloween. They’re affordable, easy to do (you just put them in your hair), they look absolutely fantastic with any outfit, and the styles and sizes they come in are so many, you literally choose to go from sweet, to sexy, to silly. Click here for more.

Hair up or down, some red lips and you’re good to go. halloween-cat-ears-masks-id2. LACE (or not) FACE MASKS. The lace ones with cat ears or not look very sexy in a retro boudoir kinda way. Even ’50 Shades of Grey’ style, but unless you’re willing to deal with all the innuendo and looks of such a look, you might consider leaving it for er… some other time.

I always thought there was something very refined and elegant, luxurious, mysterious and seducing about a mask for Halloween. Like half face mask. It implies a bit of that fantasy: vampires-meet-at-the-ball-world, a bit or aristocracy, a bit of decadence in a very seductive luxurious sort of way. halloween-costume-ideas-lace-mask (2)halloween-costume-ideas-lace-mask (3)halloween-costume-ideas-lace-mask (4)halloween-costume-ideas-lace-maskhalloween-costume-ideas-masks (3)halloween-costume-ideas-masks (4)halloween-costume-ideas-masks (5)halloween-costume-ideas-maskshalloween-ideas-lace-maskshalloween-masks-ideassexy-halloween-masks3. MAKEUP IDEAS. If you know your way with brushes, colors and all the makeup attire, or you’re a makeup artist, this is probably the most fun you can have, and you’ll always end up looking unique. You can do anything from a bold makeup you wouldn’t otherwise wear, to a freakish face inspired by vampires or zombies.

Also you can do so many great combos with makeup and a face mask, a lace veil, a hat, vampire fangs. You get the idea. halloween-costume-ideas-cat-makeuphalloween-costume-ideas-makeup (2)halloween-costume-ideas-makeup (3)halloween-costume-ideas-makeup (4)halloween-costume-ideas-makeup (5)halloween-costume-ideas-makeuphalloween-costume-ideas-makeup-vampirehalloween-vampire-looks-ide4. WIGS. These are definitely the easiest and most statement items you can do, just make sure you go for a complete different look.  I love those crazy colored wigs in pink, fuchsia, green, neon, blue… Style wise, it’s all up to you to have fun with makeup and different outfits from something that screams pop culture, to some retro doll, to a dancing queen, pop star etc. halloween-costume-ideas-colored-wigshalloween-hair-makeupideasGiven that I’m probably the laziest bitch out there I’ll probably end up at next Friday’s party in a pink wig, or some half face mask. This I would actually love if I find one tomorrow. My hair down, red lips, fake lashes and just a good all black outfit.

Have a great weekend y’all! xoxo
